Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme - final update

Hello,

A quick reminder, if you’ve not already taken a look, that plans for changes to a select number of bus routes in Liverpool City Centre are now available to view .

Government guidance is currently to stay at home, but these changes, from 24th January , have been planned for several months and will still come into effect during this period of national restrictions.

Boarding and alighting points for most services will generally focus in or around Queen Square and Liverpool ONE Bus Stations, with a frequent cross-city provision running between both for those who need it. While most people will see no change to their journeys, some passengers will need to board or alight their bus at a different stop.

The majority of services currently operating to Dale Street, Mann Island and James Street will start and finish at Queen Square Bus Station or Sir Thomas Street - however a number of services will continue to travel through to the Commercial District in the morning peak period.

Full details, covering London Road, Brownlow Hill, Renshaw Street and other services are available to view here along with a recently added map tile of the city centre showing the roads where each route will operate along.

Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme - update

The final plans for changes to Liverpool City Centre bus routes are now available, with the majority of bus users seeing no changes in where they get on or off their usual services. The roll-out of these changes to bus services was delayed due to Covid-19 but they are now scheduled to come into effect from late January 2021.

A small number of services will no longer operate as changes in road layout which come as part of the City Centre Connectivity Scheme mean it will not possible for those services to follow their previous routes.

Boarding and alighting points for most services will generally focus in or around Queen Square and Liverpool ONE Bus Stations, with a frequent cross-city provision running between both bus stations for those who need it.

Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Update

Hello

New details on the next phase of Liverpool City Council’s city centre connectivity scheme have been announced, with the beginning of some of the works being pushed back to spring 2020, more information on updates the scheme are available here .

Due to the timings of these works bus users are being advised that changes to routes through Liverpool city centre will now come into effect later next year, rather than in January as originally planned. Once agreed, the revised date for route changes will be made available.

As a result of further traffic modelling and surveys, the city council has also agreed in principle with the city’s Bus Alliance that the 82 bus service from South Liverpool will be able to continue to use Hanover Street. This decision is subject to the introduction of new bus priority measures such as bus gate or dedicated bus lane, which is currently being mapped out.

More information will be made available to bus users once details have been finalised.

Liverpool City Centre Bus Routing Update

Hello

Following initial proposals for the re-routing of some buses in Liverpool City Centre from January 2020, Merseytravel, Liverpool City Council and the bus operators are in the process of revising plans based on the feedback received. The detail is yet to be finalised but key changes are:-

• Some peak time bus services to travel beyond Queen Square and into the commercial district of Dale Street, James Street & Lord Street to support commuter journeys.

• The continuation of a number of bus routes along Hanover Street rather than Duke Street, subject to bus priority measures being introduced on Hanover Street in advance of the January changes.

This will be subject to further detail being worked through with all partners. As with the original proposals, the vast majority of bus users will be able to get on and off as they do now. The revisions mean that significantly fewer users will now be affected by city centre re-routing changes.

More detailed information will be published in the coming weeks and in the lead up to the changes in January 2020.

The bus re-routing plans are in response to Liverpool City Council’s £47m City Centre Connectivity Scheme (LCCCS) which aims to make the city cleaner and more environmentally friendly, changing how traffic moves through the city, reducing congestion and improving air quality. The key principles of the original bus re-routing plans remain, with boarding and alighting points for the majority of services generally focussed in or around Queen Square and Liverpool ONE bus stations, with a frequent cross-city bus service running between both bus stations for those who need it.

Thank you
